This Web site consists of thirty-four black-and-white photographs used in a exhibition of the work of photojournalist James Karales. Karales was a staff photographer for Look magazine from 1960 to 1971. Exhibit sections include the Selma to Montgomery March; the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and passive resistance training in Atlanta in 1960; South Vietnam during the Vietnam War; Rendville, Ohio, an integrated mining town in 1956; logging in the Pacific Northwest in 1958; and the Lower East Side of New York City in 1969.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
