This collection consists of Harris' work with public school systems in Alabama, the civil rights movements and his services on various civic and religious boards throughout the state. This collection includes a list of appointments of poll officials (1984-1988) for elections for twenty-eight counties in the State of Alabama plus other information as required by the U. S. District Court's preliminary injunction issued August 1, 1984. Some files include a list of registered voters by name, race, birth date, beat and sex. Also included are newspaper clippings, booklets and correspondences relating to the Alabama State Teachers' Association (ASTA), the Alabama Association of Elementary School Principals; the Alabama Education Association (AEA), the National Education Association (NEA), the Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB); The Alabama Caucus of Black School Board Members, and the National School Boards (NSBA).
