Overview entry of the time period World War II through the Faubus Era, 1941 through 1967, African-American servicemen returned to Arkansas as second-class citizens and began to challenge Southern racism and Jim Crow. This time period saw the build-up towards the Civil Rights Movement of the late 1960s, as 1957 brought the infamous desgregation crisis at Little Rock Central High School.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
