Julian Bond (1940-) was a founding member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, a civil rights organization based in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1965 He was elected to the Georgia Legislature, but was denied the seat because of his outspoken opposition to the Vietnam War. He was finally sworn into office in 1967, and served until 1974. He served in the Georgia Senate from 1975-1986. He is currently a professor of history at the University of Virginia. |
