| Description: | Web site containing correspondence relating to the University of Missouri School of Law and the Lloyd Gaines case. At the time Lloyd Gaines was applying to law school at the University of Missouri, it was Missouri state policy to provide tuition for graduate education for African-Americans in neighboring states. As a Missourian, Lloyd Gaines argued that he would be better prepared to practice law in Missouri if his education were obtained in the state. Part of the case made by the attorneys for the University of Missouri rested on the premise that a legal education in Missouri was comparable to that obtainable in any other state. The documents included here regarding textbooks and casebooks reflect the research on the legal education provided to students at the University of Missouri. The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata. |
