This press release includes the full text of Executive Order 9981, issued by President Harry S. Truman on July 26, 1948. This mandated "there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion or national origin."

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
