Title:Charles H. Houston to Walter White reporting on the progress of Missouri ex rel. Gaines v. Canada
Date:1938 May 24
Description:

In this hand-written letter dated May 24, 1938, Charles H. Houston updates NAACP Executive Secretary Walter White on the case of Missouri ex rel. Gaines v. Canada. Houston notes that he is working extremely long hours on the case. The ruling of this case, which was tried before the United States Supreme Court, required states with only one educational institution to allow entry to both white and African American students if no separate school for African Americans existed.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
