Articles collected by the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission about the group Americans for Democratic Action (ADA). The articles, covering the years 1964 through 1968, focus on the relationship between Hubert Humphry, the 1964 Democratic candidate for Vice President and former vice president of the liberal organization. The articles also stress the Communist ties and sympathies of the liberal organization. A suplimental section of the publication Human Rights published in September 1964 accuses ADA of undue influence on Lyndon Johnson's presidential administration. A 1967 article reports of a failed attempt by the ADA to give their annual human rights award to African American activist Julius Hobson. Two articles from the 1968 Congressional Record reprint comments made by House members John R. Rarick of Louisiana and John M. Ashbrook of Ohio against the ADA.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.

The Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission Records are state government records made available to the public pursuant to American Civil Liberties Union v. Fordice, 969 F.Supp. 403 (S.D.Miss.1994). The web-enabled version of the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission Records is intended for public use in research, teaching, and private study in accordance with the provisions of the Fair Use clause of the United States Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.). MDAH makes no warranty or assurances that materials contained in this collection are free from U.S. copyright claims or other restrictions on free use and display.
