Title:Director personal -- March 15, 1967
Date:1967 Feb.-1967 May
Description:

Records collected by the director of the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission. The file includes letters to and from Erle Johnston regarding the work of the commission, reports on meetings on upcoming elections, and text of a statement made by Mississippi governor Paul B. Johnson supporting Alabama governor Lurleen Wallace's fight against the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Several letters relate to the racial situation in Hazlehurst; another letter includes suggestions for dealing with attempts to integrate churches in West Point. Another memorandum relays accusations by a Polish organization that Polish, Italian, and Hungarian people are being discriminated against. Another memorandum discusses attempts to get legislation passed against de facto segregation in the North. Finally, memorandums discuss public relations efforts including the publication of a pamphlet entitled "An Interview with Mississippi" and reimbursing a clergy member for his work supporting the state.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
