Records collected by the Mississippi Sovereignty Commission relating to the monthly report from October 1963. The report focuses on the work of the Coordinating Committee for Fundamental American Freedoms, the Washington, D.C. office working to defeat proposed civil rights legislation. The file also contains a budget for the Washington office and a memorandum to committee members unable to attend the October meeting allowing them to vote on extending the work of the Washington committee from November 1963 to January 1964. Sovereignty Commission publicity mentioned in the file includes distribution of the film "Oxford, U.S.A." and various pamphlets, including a pamphlet of Governor Ross Barnett's testimony against proposed civil rights legislation. Finally, the file contains correspondence from Stephen M. Wald of Milton, Massachusetts, who encourages the commission to publish a directory of state legislators similar to the one published in Massachusetts.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.

The Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission Records are state government records made available to the public pursuant to American Civil Liberties Union v. Fordice, 969 F.Supp. 403 (S.D.Miss.1994). The web-enabled version of the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission Records is intended for public use in research, teaching, and private study in accordance with the provisions of the Fair Use clause of the United States Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.). MDAH makes no warranty or assurances that materials contained in this collection are free from U.S. copyright claims or other restrictions on free use and display.
