Title:Black suffrage in the twentieth century
Date:2005 Feb. 11
Description:

Encyclopedia article about the twentieth-century effort to mobilize black Georgians in the political process which began during the 1930s and continues to the present. During the first years of the twenty-first century, a renewed effort has been made to organize and mobilize the African American community. Organizations involved in the common goal to enhance black political influence and representation in all three branches of government include Atlanta University Center professors who organized "citizenship schools" in the 1930s to prepare African Americans to participate in the political process; the Atlanta Negro Voters League; the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); and the Georgia Coalition for the People's Agenda (GCPA).

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
