Mug shot of Bernard Scott Lee taken after his arrest on May 25, 1961. On May 24, a group of seven Freedom Riders traveled from Atlanta to Montgomery. The next day, before boarding the bus to Jackson, Mississippi, the seven riders and three local leaders were arrested when they requested service at the bus station lunch counter that had been desegregated the day before. Lee's arrest number is 11938.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
