Description:

Open letter describing the events leading up to "the present persecution leveled against African American parents for taking a stand against injustice in Summerton, South Carolina." The letter details proceedings pursued by the Clarendon County Parents' Committee on Action, including the Harry Briggs, et al. petition, sent as a last resort on November 11, 1949. The letter also speaks of a "malicious lie ... that Negroes want to send their children to white schools."

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
