| Description: | Letter from Joseph A. DeLaine, Sr. of Summerton, South Carolina to James M. Hinton, president of the South Carolina chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and attorney Harold R. Boulware, both of Columbia, South Carolina. In his letter, DeLaine requests legal advice regarding Summerton School Superintendent H. B. Bechmen's decision to make all of the out of district children make application to the trustees of their home district to attend school. DeLaine also mentions Levi Pearson's uncertain position between districts 5 and 26 and the bus transportation case, Pearson v. County Board of Education (1948). The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata. |
