Title:Letter, 1949 Dec. 13, Please Announce…parent and friends meeting… Parent Action Committee [Parents' Committee on Action], Joseph A. DeLaine, Sr.
Date:1949 Dec. 13
Description:

Letter from Joseph A. DeLaine, Sr., Chairman of the Clarendon County Parents' Committee on Action. In this letter, DeLaine asks ministers to announce a public meeting to be held December 13, 1949 at St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church to discuss postponement of a hearing against School District 22, the Clarendon County, South Carolina school district. DeLaine explains that he expects the district will complete some work on the Scott's Branch School ground in order to "fool the Negroes to give in claiming that they have done so much for the Negroes." A note handwritten by DeLaine adds this was during the most bitter persecution when the school board had everyone in authority sympathizing with them and when DeLaine received threats from the Ku Klux Klan.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
