Title: | Letter, 1949 July 9, (Summerton, S.C.), [Parents'] Committee on Action, to Clarendon County Board of Education, (Clarendon County, S.C.) |
Date: | 1949 July 9 |
Description: | Letter from the Clarendon County Parents' Committee on Action to the Clarendon County, South Carolina, Board of Education. The letter lists grievances against principal S. Isaiah Benson and requests a hearing on charges and an investigation to see if school records are being properly recorded. DeLaine's handwritten additions note that Benson was dismissed on October 1, 1949. In January 1950, the school board filed charges against DeLaine for slander; defendants in this case became the prosecuting witnesses in the South Carolina court case against DeLaine. They collected the insurance when DeLaine house was burned. The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata. |
