| Description: | Letter from Joseph A. DeLaine, Sr. of Charlotte, North Carolina to John D. Bright, Bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church First Episcopal District in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, submitting his resignation as Pastor of Calvary A.M.E. Church in Brooklyn, New York. DeLaine requests a transfer to the Western North Carolina Church Conference. He also thanks Bright for his support, especially after the neglect of 1956 and 1957 when to me it seemed like the Church was carrying out the wishes of the White Citizens Council, specifically economic strangulation. The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata. |
