Title:Letter, 1973 Jan. 17, (Charlotte, N.C.), Joseph A. DeLaine, Sr., to my family or whom it may concern
Date:1973 Jan. 17
Description:

Letter dated January 17, 1973 from Joseph A. DeLaine, Sr., of Charlotte, North Carolina, to Mattie and Brumit Delaine and Joe Belton, also of Charlotte, requesting that his family call the police if he cannot be found by night. The letter details DeLaine's meetings with Dr. W. A. Sinclair, editor of the Club News in Camden, South Carolina, who DeLaine says "is either an honest man or a very shrewd deceiver." DeLaine also mentions Sinclair's meeting with James Leroy Moore, also known as Jack Mack, and the president of the White Citizens Council in Lake City, South Carolina. DeLaine provides the information in the letter so it may be passed to police in Charlotte if he is hurt; he reports that he has already shared the information with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
