Description: | Black-and-white photograph of the Rosandwald Building at the Barnwell County Training School in Barnwell County, South Carolina. The image shows African Americans painting the school. A note on the image in the collection indicates the work was being done by principal Joseph A. DeLaine and some of his students in 1933 and that the paint was purchased by DeLaine and the labor was paid by federal funds. "On the opposite side is a picture of the Rosandwald Building at the Barnwell County Training School being painted by Principal J.A. DeLaine and his school boys in 1933. The Federal Government's Money (PWA) was being paid for labor which we agreed to purchase the paint with"--verso photograph. The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata. |
