| Description: | Black-and-white photograph of the gymnasium for Scott's Branch school in Clarendon County, South Carolina. The gymnasium was built in 1952 in an effort to show that the African American school was equal to the local white high school. "This Building was erected at the Scott's Branch School about 1950 in an effort to argue that the Negro School (Scott's Branch) was equal to the local white High School (erected 1949-1950 school year. First used by school 2nd semester). Brick Building at Right is the gymnasium in 1952 in a real effort to improve the school situation"--verso photograph. The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata. |
