Description: | Black-and-white photograph from the 1950s of Joseph A. DeLaine, Sr. receiving a check from Reverend Seals, E. E. Richburg, and E. Frazier. Reverends Seals, Richburg, and Frazier raised four hundred dollars for DeLaine which was used to help pay the one thousand dollar legal fee for an alleged slander lawsuit. "On the opposite side is a picture of Reverend J.A. DeLaine receiving a Check of $400.00 from Rev. J. W. Seals which was raised by the effort of Reverend Seals, Richburg and Frazier. This $400.00 was applied on the $1,000.00 legal fee for Reverend DeLaine when the defendants in The Federal Lawsuit became the Prosecuting witnesses in an alleged Slander lawsuit where they sought to take all DeLaine's property through the $20,000.00 Court Action. DeLaine eventually was forced to pay $2,700.00 which was received through Court Action (State of S.C. Court) from the insurance of Rev. DeLaine's home at Summerton after it was mysteriously burnt"--verso photograph.
