| Description: | Black-and-white photograph of Scott's Branch school and gymnasium, taken about 1952. The school was built about 1950 to prove that segregated educational facilities for African Americans were equal to those for white students in South Carolina. The gymnasium, built in 1952, was intended to improve facilities for African Americans. A handwritten note on the reverse, written by Joseph A. DeLaine, Sr., identifies the buildings and their historial significance. The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata. |
