Black-and-white photograph of the Gem Theatre, at Vine Avenue, now West Summit Hill, and Central Street in Knoxville, Tennessee. African American men, women, and children stand outside the theater in suits and dresses. The Gem Theatre was one of two African American theaters in Knoxville during the segregationist period of 20th century. The Gem Theatre had capacity to seat 800 people.
