| Description: | Pamphlet of the history of the Highlander Folk School, Monteagle, Tennessee. The pamphlet tells of Highlander's origins, history, programs, administration, and support. In 1932, Myles Horton, a native Tennessean educated at Cumberland University and the University of Chicago, returned to Tennessee to help provide Southern workers with an opportunity for an education fitted to their practical needs. The Highlander Folk School was founded "to provide an educational center in the South for the training of rural and industrial leaders, and for the conservation and enrichment of the indigenous cultural values of the mountain." |
