| Description: | Letter describing the life and times of an anonymous plantation owner before and after the Civil War, giving him the pseudonym, Uncle Sam. The letter talks generally about the economic plight of the Southern plantation owner after the abolition of slavery and contends that both the slave owner and the slave were better off under the system of slavery when compared to the system that followed. The University of Tennessee Libraries (Knoxville, Tennessee) is the digital publisher. The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata. |
