Postcard with sepia-toned photograph of Claude V. Pitts. The back

of the postcard contains the handwritten notation: "Mr. Pitts, musician." In the

early 1930s, Pitts was president of the Los Angeles Men's Forum, an

African-American civil rights organization. Pitts worked as a blacksmith and

shop foreman in Los Angeles. He was twice elected to the presidency of the Los

Angeles Men's Forum, a civil rights organization, and he ran two times as a

Socialist candidate for the California Legislature.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
