Description: | Members of the National Welfare Rights Organization, some dressed in choir robes, hold candles and a cross as they are confronted by police. This is at the entrance to the United States Capitol where the group held a vigil in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. after his assasination. Thirty-five of the NWRO leaders and three ministers were arrested for "assembling to sing and pray". The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata. |
