Title: | Pickets walk at union hall, October 16 1969 |
Date: | 1969 |
Description: | A newspaper report about a picket taking place outside the Clark-Skamania Central Labor Council headquarters. The picket was established by the Vancouver Branch of the NAACP as a show of support for efforts to get more minorities into union construction jobs. The protest was part of a nationwide effort in response to incidents in Pittsburgh and Seattle involving the trade unions discrimination towards Blacks. The picketing by the numerous NAACP branches took place at construction sites and outside labor temples and called for revisions in apprenticeship requirements. The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata. |
