Gabrielle, Daisy
Biography:
In November, 1960, Daisy Josephine Gabrielle, 42-year-old mother of six ignored the Louisiana Citizens' Council boycott and sent her daughter Yolanda to the integrated William Frantz school. After a month of braving crowds of white protesters, the loss of her husband's job, and mounting pressure from the white community, the Gabrielle family left New Orleans and moved to Rhode Island to be near James Gabrielle's parents.
