Biography:
Plaintiff of Missouri ex rel. Gaines v. Canada. African American who applied for admission to the University of Missouri Law School in 1936 and was denied admission due to race. The ruling of this case, which was tried before the United States Supreme Court, required states with only one educational institution to allow entry to both white and African American students if no separate school for African Americans existed.
