Hamilton, M. W., 1909-1990

Biography:

Hamilton was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1909 and lived in the area until his death in 1990. He worked as a mechanic, electrician and contractor in his youth. For many years, he operated a general merchandise store. In 1924, Hamilton earned his pilot rating and flew with the famous aviator brothers, Al and Fred Key. Hamilton is perhaps best known as one of the leaders of the Hattiesburg segregationists during the 1960s. He was a founding member of the Citizens Council in Hattiesburg and of Beason Academy, a whites-only school.
