Killingsworth, J. C., 1921-2007
Biography:
Born in Mississippi on March 11, 1921 to Anderson and Mattie Killingsworth, J. C. Killingsworth became a prominent figure and leader in the civil rights movement. Killingsworth, a Methodist minister, focused most of his attention in Mississippi where he worked tirelessly throughout the state to educate and register African American voters. In addition to his work with voter registration, Killingsworth organized boycotts and demonstrations throughout the state and participated in notable marches such as the March on Washington and the second Selma to Montgomery march. In 1964, he accompanied Fannie Lou Hamer to the Democratic National Convention to testify to the voting practices in the South. Killingsworth died on December 2, 2007.
