Peterson, Lestra Alene
Biography:
Lestra Alene Peterson was a twenty-three year old student at University of California Berkeley when she was arrested for her participation in the Freedom Rides. As part of the Freedom Ride Peterson rode on the Illinois Central Railroad from New Orleans, Louisiana to Jackson, Mississippi where she was arrested with nearly a dozen others on 20 June 1961.
