Pitts, Billy Roy
Biography:
Klan member and FBI informant who took part in the January 1966 murder of Vernon Dahmer and the firebombing of his house and store. Pitts pled to both murder and arson and turned states evidence. He received a life sentence, but did not serve this sentence. He did, however, serve nearly four years of a federal conspiracy conviction before his release in 1971. After this fact was revealed by the ClarionLedger newspaper in Jackson, Pitts surrendered and began serving the sentence. In 1998, he testified against Samuel Bowers in Bowers' fifth trial related to Dahmer's murder.
