Raper, Arthur Franklin, 1899-1979
Biography:
"Sociologist Arthur Franklin Raper exposed Georgia's racial and economic inequities at a time when it could be professionally risky to oppose southern practices and customs. He was one of the first scholars to criticize the damaging institutions of lynching, sharecropping, and tenancy. Raper's work provoked criticism from southerners, but it also forced them to discuss issues that would have been taboo only a few years earlier." - "Arthur F. Raper."
