Biography:

Sheriff Claude Screws of Baker County, Georgia was accused, along with two other law enforcement officers, of killing an African American by "beating him with their fists and with a solid-bark blackjack." The men were tried in federal court in a case that eventually was heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.
