Vincent, Harold S., 1900-1968
Biography:
Superintendent of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin public schools from 1950-1967. He was born in Indiana in 1900. He earned his degree from Greenville College in Illinois and taught school in South Dakota from 1923-1926. He relocated to Ohio and advanced from teacher, to vice principal, to assistant superintendent, and finally superintendent of schools in Canton, Ohio. After his move to Milwaukee, Vincent was very active in civic affairs, however, in the 1960s, he was criticized by civil rights groups for not taking forceful steps to eliminate de facto segregation in the cityÃÂs schools. Vincent retired as superintendent in 1967; he died the following year from a heart attack.
