Section of online exhibit explaining the role of African American educational institutions, including Hampton Institute in Virginia and Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, as well as the influence of Booker T. Washington. Washington attended Hampton Institute and later led Tuskegee in Alabama. The page includes two black-and-white photographs from the Virginia Historical Society and the Library of Virginia.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
